description: The Stream Mouth Protection Zones (SMPZs) are locations of streams that connect to Lake Tahoe within the 100-year floodplain. These zones represent sensitive watershed areas where Best Management Practices (BMPs) are prioritized. For the 2008 Shorezone Update, TRPA mapped each stream's ability to meander within a specified range (100 to 2,000 feet). New structures are prohibited in SMPZs to protect these sensitive areas. This dataset is part of TRPA’s officially mapped layers and is captured in Chapter 10 of the Regional Plan Maps in the TRPA Code of Ordinances.
